Playing around with 8-tracks at the age of 6 quickly turned into playing around with tapes, and by the age of 13 with already a collection of 60 or more 12inch remix vynils, onda Skillet moved to NYC. The first thing he did was buy his first turntables with his own money, collecting as much vinyl as he could in high school. Besides a minor break during his attendance to college, spinning records continued to be his passionate hobby throughout his early twenties, but at the age of 25 Louie developed his alias “Onda Skillet” as well as coining the term AeroTropic” to illustrate his sound.
Deciding to step his game up and go professional, Onda Skillet began spinning at clubs and lounges all over New York City and Northern Jersey ; venues included Le Souk, Quo, and Zen Lounge to name a few . He was able to maintain weekly residencies for several years in certain clubs, increasing his fan base and experience.
What makes Onda Skillet unique is his study and use of sound vibration and specific frequencies in his music. "I research the effects of different types of sounds and how they influence us in our environment, depending on the megahertz of the vibration, they give different results depending on the complexity of the symmetry, thus influencing us to feel certain emotions. In performances, I utilize specific frequencies that enhance certain brainwave states. Just as essential oils like lavender trigger specific feelings and emotions, I try and use essential audio frequencies to do the same. The ways sound frequencies vibrate the water molecules in our bodies produce different circuitry patterns in our brains that influence different brainwave states. In performances, I tune out specific frequencies that vibrate brainwaves to a whole new level of symmetry that trigger specific feelings and redifined emotions that innovate the way we feel."
Listening to his “AeroTropic” sound will make you want to close your eyes and imagine you’re flying just above the beach with the wind blowing through your hair.. Images of vivid palm trees and blue waters come to mind when listening to his mixture of sounds with the occassional space travel over the horizon. Onda Skillet’s music is charged with profound emotion, penetrating the inner depths of the soul, and warming even the coldest of hearts. What begins as a time machine journey through your memories, evolves into a constant racing and harmonious vortex of sound. The abstract yet melodic complexities within his music send us flying into a more cerebral dream like dimension , while his tracks and transitions flawlessly integrate with a consistent zipper effect. The ability to read a crowd and play into their vibe is a gift, and Skillet does this fluidly without missing a beat or losing focus, covering and creating the appropiate atmosphere of the party and and for crowd.
One of his first and largest career goals was to return to Costa Rica for the first time as a DJ. Finally, with much patience and persistence, in June of 2008 he got booked for two gigs at one of the main clubs in San Jose and the other on the west coast beach resort. The performances were a total success: Onda not only achieved his dream, he gained a huge following in Costa Rica, further improving his status in the industry where he returned 4 more times to play at beach festivals, underground black parties and clubs.
Skillet’s electronic music career is currently on a steady rise. Spinning in major venues and underground parties in NYC such as Trilogy, Twice as Proper, Sunrise, Prive and Motive as well as many others. Earning a residence in a private newborn festival called Pink in Vermont, he has performed for three years in a row and every year he closes the festival on sunday morning with extended sets. Internationally he has recently toured Costa Rica and Mexico for the fifth time, with bookings that include spinning the New Years Eve Party of Liquid Nightclub in Manuel Antonio for Circuit events in Costa Rica, and then playing in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico for Twice as Proper events. In summer of 2012, he was invited to play at the 16th annual three day WEMF festival held on top of the beautiful mountains of Madawaska, north of Toronto in Canada where he closed the underground stage on sunday morning with an amazing 7 hour set.
AeroTropic - The PATTERNS Development
The Patterns Development is an audio biography documenting onda Skillet's defragmentation of sound waves and notes creating form, energy and motion. This documentation will record onda Skillet's evolutionary refinement of his AeroTropic sound concept throughout the years. This audio biography will be presented in recorded sets labeled 'Patterns' that will be officially released with the first 5 Patterns becoming available for download. Right now only Patterns II, 3-D and IV are available for listening. When the first 5 Patterns are complete, this Development will be officially launched and readily avaible for download. Afterwards will eventually come Patterns VI, VII and so on and so forth but only time will be able to carve these evolutionary breakthroughs in the continuum the AeroTropic sound. "This level of density would not make sense if there was no sound to this physicality, therefore we create sound to take us wherever we want"
"..in the spectrum of this universe between the frequencies and the waves, there are colors that exist we dont know exist that only few of us get to see and at that find out the real hidden treasures of beauty itself…good energy friendships throughout the planet, beautiful friends + beautiful music = good energy always” - onda Skillet
AeroTropic is not only his trademark sound but in the year of 2012, it will become his official label that will be launched with a few of his original tracks as well as remix EP collaborations with highly respected artists such as Craft, DuchHunter and others.
